Do your Research

I heard a pastor proclaim recently that Jesus created the heavens and the earth. Have you ever heard an on-the-air ministry or denominational pastor pronounce something that you questioned? If so, did you dig into the scriptures to see if it's there on the page ’in the book’?

A few things caught my attention recently and I thought I would share them with you. Here’s what I read in the scripture regarding creation:

  • In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. (Genesis 1:1, NAS)

  • “Worthy are you, our Lord and God, to receive glory and honor and power, for you created all things, and by your will they existed and were created.” (Rev 4:11, ESV)

One ministry’s bible commentary has a verse that says Jesus led the people out of Egypt. There are a few versions based on a corrupted Greek text saying in Jude 1:5 “Jesus” but the majority of versions translate the text ‘God or the Lord’. They read as follows:

  • I wish to remind you, as you all know, that God, when once he had brought the people out from Egypt, afterward destroyed those who did not believe. (Jude 1:5, Aramaic Bible in Plain English)

  • But I want to remind you, though you once knew this, that the Lord, having saved the people out of the land of Egypt, afterward destroyed those who did not believe. (Jude 1:5, NKJ)

One denomination teaches Mary is without sin; the mother of God and she never had any other children, remaining a continuous virgin while married to Joseph. Closer inspection of the scriptures show:

  • In the sixth month of Elizabeth’s pregnancy, God sent the angel Gabriel to Nazareth, a town in Galilee, to a virgin pledged to be married to a man named Joseph, a descendant of David. The virgin’s name was Mary. The angel went to her and said, “Greetings, you who are highly favored! The Lord is with you.” (Matthew 1:26-28, NIV)

  • She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus,[f] because he will save his people from their sins.” (Matthew 1:21, NIV)

  • Isn’t this the carpenter’s son? Isn’t his mother’s name Mary, and aren’t his brothers James, Joseph, Simon and Judas? Aren’t all his sisters with us? Where then did this man get all these things? (Matthew 13:55-56, NIV)

I’ll be researching more scripture to share with you next time and if you have any questions, please feel free to email them to me. Remember to LOVE the Truth!

  • ..and all the ways that wickedness deceives those who are perishing. They perish because they refused to love the truth and so be saved. (2 Thessalonians 2:10 NIV)
